26 January 2012

Baby, it's cold outside!

We heard on the radio that the 'worst' day of the year is January 24th: the holidays are over, daylight is fleeting, and it's so long until spring. Thank goodness it's already January 26th! We made it through, friends!

Meanwhile, no matter the date or the weather, you know the good folks here at Butcher's Market are keeping the shelves stocked and the coolers full of fresh local produce (believe it or not, some vegetables do very well in the cold months...or in the greenhouse), plus delicious, colorful canned goods and homemade desserts and breads. And local apples are just $0.99/pound for over 10 varieties. Pick and choose, as usual.

Grandmas' soups this week are:
Cream of Broccoli Soup
Stuffed Pepper Soup
Chicken Corn Soup
Chicken Pot Pie

News From The Farm
Seed ordering is in progress and they're arriving daily. So far, we have 27 varieties of sweet corn, which we hope to have in the ground in a little less than three months.

One last thing: Valentine Heart Cakes and Valentine Sandtart Cookies are being made this week, because it's never too early to tell your sweetheart you love em’!

And don't forget, we're still in our Winter Hours, so we'll be seeing you on Thursdays, Fridays, or Saturdays. Or all three!

We're back!

And we've brought some Florida delights back up north to ring in the new year!

Strawberries are just $2.50 a quart
Brocolli crowns are just $1.99 a pound
Grape Tomatoes are just $1.99 a pint
Iceburg Lettuce s just $.99 a head!

These southern fruits and veggies are just what the doctor ordered to keep our moods and tables bright during the short days of January.

We're also still featuring local apples: with over ten varieties to choose from, we're sure to have something to pease even the most particular of apple eaters. And since you can mix and match for just .99 a pound, there's no worries about getting enough for those lunch sacks every day of the week.

And, Grandma's back in the kitchen. After Christmas, just like us, she took a little rest, but now she's returned to her kitchen at Buther's and cooking up a storm. Soups this week are ham pot pie, chicken pot pie, macaroni & beef, and chicken noodle. There's nothing quite like some hot soup and warm bread on the supper table in winter, is there?

See you soon at the market! (Don't forget, we're open Thursdays through Saturdays until March!)

3 January 2012

We’ve just settled down for a short winter’s nap…

Don’t worry: we’ll be back 12 January, when our winter hours will be Thursdays & Fridays from 9-6 and Saturdays from 9-3.

Our homemade offerings will still include Grandma’s delicious soups and fresh baked goods, along with the apples, fresh potatoes, local cider and all-natural milk that keeps us all going in through the winter.

We look forward to seeing you then, with the hopes your New Year has begun as restoring and energizing as our own.
